I really really love this song!!!
But I have no clue what Cale means with "Blonde".

Anybody up for a try? Anybody a clue what "Blonde" means in this song?

Maybe it's already written somewhere, but I googled already like mad and found no solution...

I always assumed that 'Blonde' was a nickname for someone, but then I never seem to understand lyrics properly, so . . .

The Fragments of a Cale season blog had a go at it:

i think when Cale sang waiting for blonde he means waiting for old age to arrive...blonde=grey.
Cale first played this song in London when he was supported by the Boredoms. It was the first song of the show, Cale walked out with viola and created a huge drone. I have yet to find a concert recording that does not have that track distorted because the viola was turned up sooooo loud.

Thank you all for helping to decrypt the title!

Paul, on the Fragment blog is only written: "The title is never explained, and doesn't need to be." Partly it's true. The song definitely also works without explaining the title, but still...

'Blonde' as a nickname? I don't think so. But in any case, nickname for whom?

And I also thought of 'Blonde = Grey', but then what is really the 'old age' in a city with such an ethnically and religiously mixed population? The time when mistrust against each other was not omnipresent? Maybe. But when was that? Did this age really exist? I have no clue.

Maybe he made a mistake and wanted to sing 'Bond' - 'James Bond' as the ultimate saviour from all trouble...hehehe...

Oh please, if anybody has some more ideas?! Otherwise I have to ask Cale in Essen. And he might hate this question. Or I better ask him to play the song live. Twisted Evil

Fireball, I'm jealous. I really wish I would have been at that concert!

Cale is a master at giving the answer you do not want to hear so good luck in Essen.

I don't really know (and to be truly honest I haven't thought about it in huge detail before), but I just think he talks about waiting for 'Blonde' in the same way you would talk about waiting for 'Bob', or whoever.

Nayika, I remember this being discussed on the Sabotage list, and it was agreed that Waiting for Blonde was a term used to describe the onset of old age and eventual death. Blonde, it was suggested, was Cale’s word to mean ‘white hair’. But I see that you already know this now. Thought I’d post anyway.

I thought Cale was very evasive in Cardiff...for instance he was asked about "Beautiful Mistake" and just shrugged his shoulders, he looked like he did not want to be there and couldn't wait to press the down button on the elevator to get him out of there. Maybe because the host was less than an intellectual match for Cale.

Oh thank you, Zig! Enlightment... Idea Yeah, it really makes sense, but did Cale himself ever mention something about it? Anyway, I can really live with this interpretation, although I fell a bit in love with this version Twisted Evil

"As you're waiting for Bond, you are New Yorkers!
As you're waiting for Bond, you don't need the rest!"
(rest = Old Europe + UK[=Bond])

...

And yes, Fireball, he seemed partly very uncomfortable in Cardiff. But I think he was a bit pissed off because of the host. He was really not that well prepared and some questions were really stupid!

But when I asked Cale afterwards for a picture with me, he was very gentle and relaxed sunny
