It's definitly tough to choose from his huge catalogue, but there might be an album you maybe listened most. Why?

is it possible to have a favourite ?! I keep listening to Hobo Sapiens at the moment - it just suits my mood when I'm revising.

I'm not sure what my favorite is.

I really like the Island Years (I bought it was a package so it's hard for me to think of Fear, Slow Dazzle, and Helen of Troy as separate albums).

Hobosapiens and Sabotage are up there too.

I really like all of his albums except for Walking on Locusts, but even that has a few good songs.

Yeah jivedot, it's indeed not really possible to have a favourite album, but to one or some somebody might listen more often.

I'm right now listening to "Paris 1919", because I kind of get in a Norwich mood. But in general it's not an album I listen to very often. 16 years ago, when I had only a few Cale records, I listened mostly to "Guts". I consider the record still as a highlight, although it's just a compilation. But it seems to be "The best of Cale's anger". And still I prefer the angry stuff, although the Cale's anger somehow got less over the years. But "blackAcetate" made me partly really happy (angry Twisted Evil ). Maybe it's my most listened album in the last years.

Just one album? That's a tough call because I don't know wheter my Top 3 are allowed to be voted for.

I'd say SONGS FOR DRELLA, but that's a collaboration as we all know.
Then FRAGMENTS OF A RAINY SEASON, but that's sort of a greatest hits live recording.
Another fav of mine, 5 TRACKS, is no album at all but an EP.

Paris? Words? Both good, but...I think...my favourite Cale studio album is...

*drum roll*

MUSIC FOR A NEW SOCIETY.

Why? Maybe because I prefer melancholy to aggression (@Nayika Wink)

I can't limit myself to one either:

Depending on my mood, or what I'm doing at the time, or the weather, my equal favourites are:

Hobosapiens - there's so much to listen to there
Fragments of a Rainy Season - basically the same set I saw in my first Cale show
La Naissance de l'Amour - beautiful.

And I love Church of Anthrax as well. He sounds like he's having fun.

Cheers

First post. Pardon me if I screw it up...I know it's a "greatest hits" album, but I love "Fragments." His voice is at its peak, and it's all Cale -- just him and the piano or guitar. I also think that his tweaks to the earlier versions of the songs are improvements -- if that's possible.

Music For A New Society. I see this as a defining moment in Cale’s work.

I really love albums as Caribbean Sunset and Artificial Intelligence. Here is Top Five:
Island Years (mainly Helen Of Troy)
Caribbean Sunset (because of rock/pop sound and great tunes as Magazines and Beirut)
Music For A New Society (because of reserved mood)
Hobosapiens (same as Society, 20 years after)
Sabotage Live (for apocalyptic mood and sound and Mercenaries with Captain Hook)

It has to be Music For A New Society for me.
But also the New York In The 1960´s is a challenging listen! Just imagine the CIA using At About This Time Mozart Was Dead... torchering suposedly Quida terrorists instead of Metallica!
Actually I love all of them, maybe Walking On Locust being the weakest.

Oh, I forgot: Nico´s Marble Index & Desertshore (Frozen Borderline).
These recordings are more Cale than Nico, apart from Nico´s voice and harmonium everythig else is pure Cale. This should have been released as a collaboration between Nico and Cale, most people still not knowing the facts and thinking Nico was the musical genius of these recordings.

Obviously difficult, but for me, it's a tie-
Helen of Troy or Hobosapiens..
Really anything but "Walking on Locusts"...

Hedda Gabler

It depends on my mood. Right now it is HoboSapiens. A few weeks ago Paris1919 was the favorite. Next week? Who knows....

Fave album, I can't say. I'd be better picking my favourite track from each album although that would still be subject to some change so off the top of my head I'd say: Amsterdam, The Endless Plane of Fortune, You Know More Than I Know, Mr. Wilson (used to be Guts but time changes somethings), Leaving it Up To You, Hedda Gabler, Chorale, Wilson Joliet, Chinese Envoy (or thoughtless kind), Caribbean Sunset (Villa Albani), Dying on the Vine (Or that Valley song)... out of time
